CCM started in Canada in 1899 and was well known for the manufacture and repair of bicycles, thus the name Canada Cycle and Motor Company. When the bicycle market was flooded in 1905, CCM branched out into making hockey equipment and even tried making cars for a brief period of time. The introduction of the Tackaberry brand by CCM in 1937 brought the company unprecedented success in the hockey equipment marketplace. "Tacks" are still recognized as one of the greatest skate lines ever developed.
