Hockey Shields

The first hockey shields were developed by Delbert Louch in Ontario, Canada in the 1950s. The players, mostly goalies, using these early face shields wore the masks during practice but would not wear the masks during a competitive game. While you would not think of going out on the ice without some form of face protection today, any player wearing such protection a few decades ago was made fun of by other players.

The initial hockey face shields were made of a clear plastic sheet that strapped onto a player's head. The face shields did not provide any protection for the head because it only covered an area from the forehead to the chin. Players had problems seeing through the face shields because the shields would fog over or reflect light into the wearer's eyes.

Improved Hockey Shields
Today's hockey shields provide all of the protection you need with a number of options to choose from. At Hockey Empire, we suggest you purchase an anti-fog shield to keep your view clear during hot games. You can choose a shield with vents for additional air flow or without vents. You may also want a shield with optical correctness to provide you with the most accurate view of the rink.

We carry hockey shields in a wide variety of price ranges to fit your budget and your game. We also have the fog-free spray and wiping cloths you need to keep your shield clear during practice and games. Purchase the hockey shield you need online at hockeyempire.com.
